Political OrganizationThe Government of Shanghai is controlled directly from the government in Beijing. In the late 1970s, the city government made up of elected body called Shanghai's People Congress was established. The Government functions within the city, but also functions within the national government as well.

Types of IndustryShanghai features both secondary sector as well as tertiary sector. Within the secondary sector workers manufacture goods to be shipped to other international locations. In the tertiary sector workers in the city provide services to citizens and or tourists such as hotels, call centers, communications, and education. The city of Shanghai proves that it is an example of mixed use development, due to overcrowding, people are forced to live on top of shops. 70% of the city is made up of industry.

Housing and TransportationShanghai has an extensive public transport system, largely based on buses, taxis, and a rapidly expanding metro system. All of these public transport tools can be accessed using the Shanghai Public Transportation Card. The Shanghai metro system features 11 lines numbered 1-11. It extends to every major urban district within the area as well as the neighboring suburban ones. It is one of the fastest growing systems in the world, and the first line was created only 20 years ago! The city of Shanghai is an example of mixed use development, due to overcrowding, people are forced to live on top of shops. Only about 2% of Shanghai's population lives in the metropolitan area. Down town Shanghai is one of the worlds most crowded urban areas.
